Nikolai A. Barlev graduated from Kazan State University in 1989, specialty: biologist-microbiologist; in 1994 he successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis, and in 2010 – his doctoral dissertation in the specialty “Cell Biology, Cytology, Histology”.
Main scientific interests of Dr Barlev include: regulation of the human tumor suppressor TP53; mechanisms of the Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition, regulation of apoptosis and tumor cell proliferation; rational design of new anticancer drugs, development of cell test systems for high-throughput screening, preclinical studies of new drugs; CRISPR/Cas9-dependent interference and activation for controlled gene expression, new approaches in genome editing.
The author of more than 170 works published in the national and leading international journals, has patents for inventions, as an Editor of the international journal “Cell Death Disease” (Nature Publishing Group), a member of the editorial board of the journal “Cytology”
